How to make vegetarian mechado


1 Bowl of Seitan Cutlets

1 Medium Carrot

3 Small Potatoes

1 Medium Onion

1 Red Bell Pepper

3/4 Cup Tomato Sauce or Pasta Sauce

2 Tbsp Soy Sauce

1 Tbsp Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Cloves of Garlic

1 Cup  Water

Peppercorn or Black Pepper (Whole or Ground)

Coriander (Ground) Optional

Vegetarian Oyster Sauce (Optional)

Method of Preparation

  • Saute garlic and onion in oil.
  • Add seitan cutlets and stirfry for a few minutes.
  • Add water and soy sauce. Let boil until most of the liquid has evaporated.
  • Add the tomato or pasta sauce and the vegetarian oyster sauce.
  • Add Potatoes and Carrots.
  • Simmer for about 10 mins or so.
  • Add the red pepper.
  • Simmer for another 5 minutes,
  • Add peppercorn and coriander.
  • Serve with rice.
  • Enjoy your vegan mechado.
